PROPPING THE TUNNEL ROOF

Whilst it will be necessary to dismantle and re-build sections of the tunnel, we don't want it collapsing before we can start work.  Inevitably with a digger on the mound and the movement of 70 tonnes of earth, together with pulling out tree roots (a yew tree has been attempting to grow through the roof of the entrance for example), the tunnel will be subject to disturbance no matter how carefully we work.

We have therefore propped each of the (apparently) 3 sections of the tunnel with 4 Acrow props and some heavy timbers to support the tunnel roof whilst the work is going on.

Note the last pair of props had to be placed outside the door as the latter opens inwards.
