MOVING THE EARTH
This is how the entrance now looks with the rubble cleared. Note the 2' thick walls each side - certainly the one on the left extends back under the first two sections of tunnel - we need to explore further to determine if the other side does.
It looks like there was a doorway just here - these stone buttresses are about the profile of a brick (4 1/2" x 9") and are some 18" (450mm) from the current wooden door.
This stone monolith was found across the entrance. What is left is 4' (1200mm) long, 2' (600mm) wide and 6" (300mm) thick. It may have been part of a wall, but given the remainder are clearly blocks this is unlikely. Perhaps part of a larger structure that encased the entrance to the tunnel?
